Here’s a question many women have when they consider using the FLEX Disc during sex. Will a menstrual disc fit inside my body along with a penis, toy, or set of fingers?
Yes, yep, oh yeah!
To help you on your steamy journey, we’ve outlined tips below on how to use FLEX Disc during sex.
Use an empty or recently emptied FLEX Disc. Having sex with a full menstrual disc isn’t risky, but it may not be super comfortable. Using a new or less full FLEX Disc (i.e. it’s only been in for a few hours and/or you’ve just emptied it out by bearing down while on the toilet), is a better move since that way you won’t have to worry about leaks caused by pressure.
Get wet. To start things off on the sexiest note, we recommend doing some foreplay, tantalizing talk, or anything you like to get you excited and naturally lubricated- including oral sex. (FLEX Disc users experience no period smell or leakage so you can sit back and enjoy being pleasured sans penetration if that’s more your speed). PS: Only water-based lubes are considered safe for use with the FLEX Disc.
Get in position. The best sex positions when using a menstrual disc are missionary and doggy style. If you’re having sex in one of these positions, it’s very unlikely your partner will feel a menstrual disc.
Rearrange all you want. If you switch positions and your FLEX Disc shifts, don’t fret. It rarely happens, but if it does use a clean finger to tuck it back in behind the pubic bone. FLEXpert Pro Tip: Try this thumb trick!
Use it with birth control. FLEX is not a contraceptive. Use it in conjunction with your normal birth control, even if it's the one that goes inside your vagina. Quick notes about things that can be worn with the FLEX Disc :
Condoms. Totally safe to use these with FLEX.
IUDs. Using a menstrual disc with an IUD is certainly possible, but if you have an IUD we always recommend chatting with your doctor or health provider before trying any of our products because they'll have a better idea about how your IUD placed and currently positioned with your personal anatomy.
NuvaRing. The FLEX Disc is safe to wear in conjunction with Nuvaring. Just be sure to prioritize your birth control by inserting it first and then following up with the disc. We also recommend giving your disc a quick check upon removal to be sure you don't accidentally remove your Nuvaring.
More oh & oh yeahs. Some women experience stronger orgasms when wearing the FLEX Disc, because it gently rubs on the cervix during intercourse. Yes, we DO take thank you notes!
Immediate removal can be tricky, but don’t panic. Removing the FLEX Disc after sex can be harder than putting it in for a few reasons: your vagina gets bigger and longer when it becomes aroused and rigorous movement can shift your FLEX Disc. Wait about 30 minutes to an hour for your vagina to return to its normal state before you attempt to remove your disc. Then, push or bear down with your pelvic muscles (as if trying to poop). This will help with removal of your FLEX Disc from your vaginal canal.
